Charles A. Black Obituary
 

GREENSBORO - Charles A. Black passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, in the presence of his wife, Helen, of 59 years, and close friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 Pm, Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Lutheran Church of Our Father on Groometown Road.

He was born in Moore County, NC and spent most of his life in North Carolina.

He served in the Navy in World War II. He was part of the D-Day invasion in Normandy and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the battle. In 2004, he, along with 99 other veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, was honored by the French Government on the 60th anniversary of D-Day, where he received the French Legion Medal of Honor.

He worked as a Communication Technician for 39 years for AT&T and retired in 1986. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and handyman. He spent some wonderful afternoons fishing in his pond and keeping his yard perfectly groomed.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, of the home, his son, Charles, of San Diego, and his daughter, Jane of Boise, Idaho.
