GM 3/c Santo Porto
From an email from Calvin J. Dooley: Dear sir: I'm sorry to say that I do not recognize any of your images. However, I do recognize one person amongst a group of five USS Rich sailors immediately to the left of EUGENE E, THOMAS TM/3c. He is listed as "unknown" in the picture. His name is SANTO PORTO GM/3c. We were the best of friends. He was from Lumberton, NJ. He still has family living in the general area, Santo attended Mount Holly High School where he was recognized as the outstanding athlete of his class. Several major league ball clubs expressed interest in him as a pitcher. Santo is buried in the Beverly, NJ veterans cemetery. I hope this information proves useful to you.
