(Letter from Roy & Jane Hudson - December, 2006)
Hello and Season Greetings to all of our Shipmates and Friends.
First of all, we would like to tell you from a personal level how much
we have enjoyed the reunions and the wonderful people we have met. We
cherish the time we have spent together and the beautiful memories. We
would love to be able to continue the reunions as in the past, but we
all realize that we are having heealth problems and most of us are not
able to travel long distances or get to involved in a lot of activity.
With this in mind, we thought maybe we could try to have a scaled down
reunion in Bedford, VA this June. They always have a great ceremony on
June 6th. It is such a beautiful place to visit and now that we have the
USS Rich Plaque installed it has a special meaning for our group. If you
have not had the opportunity to visit the D-Day Memorial, you should
certainly try to make the trip.
We are willing to look into the Hotel situation and secure some rooms
together. We can sort of play it by ear as to what everyone feels up to
doing, there is much to see and do in this quaint little town or we can
just be together and fellowship with each other.
Also, we would like to tell you that we are in possession of the USS
Rich Flag and the shell. We voted at the last reunion to donate them to
the D-Day Memorial Educational Building for future generations to enjoy.
If there is any opposition to this, please let us know. We are still the
treasurers and using our small account for the newsleters expense and
USS Rich related matters. When the time comes that we no longer need the
account, we will donate any monies left to the D-Day Memorial, such a
fitting place for it. If anyone wishes to donate to the fund, please
make your checks out to USS Rich Survivors Fund and mail to us.
We understand how difficult it is to plan trips too far in advance at
our age. Heck, we don’t even buy green bananas any more. There will be
another newslettter in the Spring confirming the mini-reunion.
