Jacksonville, Florida 2007
What a terrific time Alice Bunch, Barbara Stilwell, Ray and Doris
Joyce, Jimmy and Dottie Gwaltney, Ray Beebe and Betty Loomis, Guy
Rich and Francis Livesay, Gerald and Joyce Hickey, George Fryberger,
Mary Hundsrucker, Curtis Bunch, and Paula Sothman had during the
2007 reunion in Jacksonville. The Crowne Plaza Riverfront is located
on the St. Johns River and many of the guests had rooms that
overlooked the river. The weather was warm but not too much. On
Thursday there was a tour of St. Augustine where they saw many very
old buildings. Our tour guide gave us a history lesson of the area
that was quite interesting. After lunch, near the restaurant where a
few of them ate, they saw some manatees. Part of the afternoon was
spent shopping before we headed back to the hotel.
On Friday there was a tour of Mayport Naval Station where they were
allowed to tour the USS Underwood. Saturday, many of us visited with
a young man that is interested in trying to bring a Navy ship to the
Jacksonville area and then some of them went shopping or rested
before having our photos taken on the River walk of the St. Johns
River. The banquet was held at Sticky Fingers Barbecue and then we
came back to the hotel to have the meeting and open gifts. A
discussion was held about ideas of where to hold the 2009 reunion
but no decision was made until further information could be
obtained.
Sunday had us wishing safe journeys to old and new friends as we
traveled to our next destinations.

Christmas Cards
As many of you may
recall, last year I asked you to send Curtis cards or letters while
he was overseas. He thanks all of the members of the USS Bunch for
all the cards and letters that he received and that they made him
feel a little closer to home.
I received an email with
an address to send cards to recovering soldiers at Walter Reed but
decided to check to see if the cards would be accepted and found out
that they would not be due to the high security at the hospitals.
All mail addressed to unnamed soldiers is destroyed.
What I found out is that
although the Walter Reed Army Medical Center is not accepting
holiday cards for recovering soldiers, the American Red Cross has
said that small gifts may be sent to patients in that facility
through them: The Walter Reed Army Medical Center is ONLY accepting
phone cards, CDs, individual small packets of candy, things like
that; which they will distribute among the soldiers (as they have a
lot of in and out patients). They are not accepting Holiday Cards,
as they don't have the human resources to distribute them. Any
packets may be sent to:

Reunion Photo CD
If
any of those attending the reunion received a CD that is blank,
please contact Paula or Curtis.
Thank You
Contributions and the
registration fee for the reunion are the only funds that the USS
Bunch Association has to fund the expenses for the printing and
mailing of the newsletters and for the extras related to the
reunion. We truly appreciate Donald Lingren, Carolyn Erickson, and
the those that participated in the 2007 reunion for their
contributions to the USS Bunch Association Fund. We also want to
thank George Fryberger, for his technical support with the
newsletter that is sent electronically and for his work on the USS
Bunch website. A big thank you to Donald Lingren for contributing
photographs and money from China. |
